After the first two days, those of 5 and 6 February last, the Wild Boar and Tortello Festival of Scarperia returns with the final weekend of Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 March. It is a very interesting appointment to get to know the locality in province of Florence and which is usually talked about because within its municipal territory there is the famous Mugello International Circuit. The event will allow you to savor and discover the best specialties of typical cuisine of this area of the Toscana.
The menu of the Scarperian festival includes the classics tortelli from Mugello (as you can guess from the name), prepared with potatoes and with a characteristic square shape and yellow color: moreover, there will be pappardelle and polenta with wild boar sauce, given that the ungulate is among the undisputed protagonists of the event. Among the main courses, however, it will be possible to taste the excellent stewed wild boar, roasted wild boar, wild boar skewers, steak and rosticciana (recipe based on sausages, ribs and pork chops).
The food stands are those of the "Christian Workers Movement" (MCL) of Scarperia, with covered and heated rooms: the opening on Saturday is scheduled for dinner time, specifically starting from 19 pm (until 22 pm), while on Sunday 13 March it is also possible to have lunch at the festival from 12. Scarperia is well known by hunters as it is the seat of the Management Committee of the Territorial Area of Hunting 4 Florence-Prato, which allows you to request and take the qualification exam for boar selection hunting in the province of Prato.
The link between Tuscany and the wild boar could not be closer than at this moment, in the light of new law governing the big hunting of ungulates. The regional council will approve the hunting calendar every year, accurately indicating the time periods and times of sampling. Furthermore, the hunt will take place from fixed positions and not "in search" and without the use of dogs, apart from those used to recover injured animals. The reasons to visit the Mugello village are therefore different, not only for hunting enthusiasts.
