The appointment with the “Sfoglio Polizzano” Festival, now in its 18th edition, is renewed again this year, on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 July 2012 in Polizzi Generosa in the province of Palermo.
The event is traditionally hosted by the village of Polizzi Generosa immersed in the heights of the Madonie, and you can taste the traditional Sfoglio Polizzano, a typical local dessert invented in the seventeenth century by the Benedictine nuns of the "Badia Vecchia" convent, to celebrate the anniversary of their patron saint "San Benedetto" but the fame of his goodness soon conquered the whole island.
Local pastry shops prepare Sfoglio Polizzano following the original recipe: a cake filled with grated fresh cheese (tuma) mixed with sugar, chocolate and cinnamon and wrapped in shortcrust pastry.
