The 18th Strigliozzi Festival will be held in Castel di Tora, in the province of Rieti, on Sunday 29 September 2013.
Visit one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, taste a tasty local specialty and watch the performances of the best accordion players in Lazio. These are just three of the reasons why, on Sunday 29 September, it is worth reaching Castel di Tora for the “Sagra degli Strigliozzi”. Located on the banks of the Turano, surrounded by a crown of dense woods dominated by Mount Navegna, this small town has an almost magical charm and seems to keep the secret of its mythical origins, which bind it to the Sabine city of Thora. On 29 September, from the early hours of the morning, the skilled women of the village will knead about 200 kg of strigliozzi, which will be distributed starting at 12.30. The Pro Loco of Castel di Tora, with the collaboration of the Municipality, organizes the 18th edition of the festival dedicated to this particular type of long pasta, made with durum wheat flour and seasoned with tomato sauce. To accompany the local specialty, strictly wood-fired bread, good full-bodied wine, typical sweets and all the best of local gastronomy, which will be on display together with handicrafts along the winding streets of Castel di Tora.
After lunch, the 10th Gathering of accordion players is scheduled, whose artistic direction is entrusted to the multi-champion Claudio Di Muzio, who will see virtuosos of this traditional instrument perform from all over the Region: a moment that always gives joy and lightheartedness to everyone. visitors, and which brings back to the atmosphere of the old peasant festivals of the past.
With the summer behind us, then, the Turano Valley wears autumnal colors, and on clear days the waters of the lake shine with a particular sparkle. And so, those who want to get to know this area between Carsoli and Rieti more deeply, can also take a tour on a sailing boat offered by the Lega Navale del Turano. It will also be possible to visit the personal exhibition of sculpture and painting by the artist Marzio Gregori at the premises of the Monti Navegna and Cervia Nature Reserve. A village of ancient origins, Castel di Tora still retains the pentagonal tower of the Castle, built around the year 1864. And it is precisely at that period that the first historical testimonies of the town date back, which until 250 was called Castelvecchio, when it was decided to link its name to Tora, an ancient Sabine settlement in which - in XNUMX AD - the martyrdom of Santa Anatolia took place. .
