The first marked woodcocks
The commitment of Federcaccia and Amici di Scolopax continues for the study of the migratory strategies of wintering woodcocks in Italy: field activity began a few days ago and 5 woodcocks have already been captured and released equipped with GPS-GSM transmitter, which will give precise locations of their presence in the area, allowing the tracking of migration and the beginning of this.
The contribution of the UNCZA
The action in the field of Alessandro Tedeschi, consultant of the FIdC Studies and Research Office, assisted by valuable local collaborators, has allowed an excellent start of operations in Piedmont and Liguria, regions in which the transmitters financed by UNCZA have been used (4 ), by the Association of Trentino Hunters and FIdC Novara (1).
Closing the withdrawal
The study is scientifically coordinated by the University of Milan, and this year there are 31 devices to be placed in various Italian regions. Only with this method is it possible to precisely know the start date of migration, since this is essential to keep the closure of the collection of the species at 31 January. We will update the status of operations in the coming weeks (source: FIDC).
