Hunters and selectors
The 2025 data on wild boar culls in Puglia are available . As emerged during the work of the fourth regional commission, convened to review containment plans in the Gargano and Alta Murgia regions, the total number of wild boars killed was 2.765. Of these, 1.750 were taken during hunting trips, while the remaining 1.008 were taken by selective inspectors.
Plans delayed
Both the Gargano and Alta Murgia Parks have not yet adopted management plans, a delay that tends to be overlooked. However, prompt adoption has been urged. Another goal is to create the "Cinghiale di Puglia" brand, a supply chain capable of guaranteeing food safety.
The next steps
What will happen in the remaining months of 2026? The number of wild boars killed will necessarily increase. Among other things, wild boar hunting will take place between October 1st and January 31st, 2027, with the activation of collective hunting and the use of dogs to further reduce the wild boar population.
