Dogs from Hunting. The splendid lands of Leskovac, which stretches south of Nis, in Serbia, where Switzerland has organized this edition of the World Championships and above all the wild species that populate them - the result of intelligent wildlife management aided, it must be said, by agriculture not intensive and rich in crop varieties - they guaranteed three days of great hunting dogphilia, allowing two- and four-legged athletes from the 29 participating nations to express themselves at their best.
To underline the presence of England as a team and no longer as an individual presence both in the Practical Hunting and in the San Uberto Men and Spaniel, a decision taken after having attended last year's edition of the world championship in Italy in Collacchioni.
The level of competitors is high and it could not have been otherwise in an event of this importance, which sees teams from all over Europe and beyond. It is nice to be able to say, without falling into sterile self-referentiality, that even by expanding the number of competitors, Italian dog lovers remain an important point of reference and comparison, especially in a discipline such as Sant'Uberto, which represents hunting with dogs in a competitive key. highest example.
Well deserved individual gold in Simone Michelucci's Spaniel, who with two pheasants embodied together with his Springer Buccleuch Xanto wins the top step of the podium. Also significant was the performance of the other Italian, Alberto Dandolo, who performed a coppiola on two pheasants. Unfortunately his springer Grisia del Pizzolungo manages to find and bring back only one, and this causes Dandolo to slide to third place.
Between the two Italians, the Swedish Lundeberg deservedly fits, also with a springer. A novelty is the presence of female competitors who create a mixed category for the first time. A circumstance that we hope will repeat itself and with an ever greater presence. The two performances of Michelucci and Dandolo also bring Italy team gold, ahead of Sweden, second, and Spain.
In the S.Uberto men both of our competitors win the battery that sees them compete. An excellent shift with two pheasants killed and a third well worked by the dog, the Breton Flash, by Fabrizio Furia and an equally valid shift run by Fabrizio Muccioli with his Cyrano, always a Breton, leads them to play a three-way barrage with the Danish Valdemar Nielsen and his setter Kroif.
A “final” that sees the well-deserved world champion S.Uberto men Fabrizio Muccioli, former vice-champion of the 2014 world, followed by Nielsen and in third place Fabrizio Furia. A result that places the Italian team - in which the young Gregorio D'Ambrosio, in Serbia in the reserve role, also deserves to be mentioned - in first place, followed by Croatia and San Marino.
In S.Uberto Donne Paola Gobbi with Breton Palma raced a round without unfortunately meeting, while Elena Villa with Kurzhaar Junus von der Himnelsleite ranks second in the battery, thus winning the individual bronze, preceded at the end of a barrage by Switzerland Simone Meili with the English setter Altesse, gold, and by the Bulgarian Zornitsa Stanislova with the kurzhaar Georgi. However, the two combined rounds allow our ladies to win silver in teams, preceded by Bulgaria and ahead of Germany.
Coming to Practical Hunting, the first day of competitions of the English team made up of Paolo Pardini, Aldo Mariani, Marco Mori and Stefano Pianigiani, sees only the latter going in the standings with the Ford setter and the 2nd Excellent qualification. In the Continentals, on the other hand, Roberto Scarpecci and his kurzhaar Vamos del Cakic go in the standings with the 1st Excellent and Claudio Pezzulli with the Breton Erer de Keranlouan wins a MB. Nothing to do instead for the other two members of the team, Domenico Riverso and Stefano Bianucci.
The second day unfortunately ends for the first time after many years with nothing done for the competitors of the English category, which sees the Russian Akop win the individual titles with the pointer Kam; second the Austrian Bertalan with the setter Solid Gold's Veria and third the French Teulieres with the setter Eliot. In the teams, world champion Germany, followed by the Czech Republic and Hungary.
In the Continentals also the second day sees an excellent performance by Scarpecci who wins the Cac Cacit, followed by another MB from Pezzulli and that of Riverso with Epar de Keranlouan. A result that allows Scarpecci to claim the title of Continental World Vice-champion and Italy to win the team silver in the same category.
The classification of the Continentals is completed in the Individuals by the gold of Francis Maudet, already multiple world champion, with Gatsby and by the bronze of the Romanian Kostic with Luke and the French Boucher with Furdohazi. In the teams Italy is preceded by France and followed by Denmark. From these world championships, therefore, an overall result to be satisfied with, also considering the aforementioned high level of competitors.
"I want to thank first of all Switzerland, organizer of the championship and Serbia which hosted it on its land - declared the national president Gian Luca Dall'Olio, who followed the tests every day -, as he is known among the best for quality and presence of wild animals, first and foremost the increasingly precious gray partridges, which they have rightly known how to preserve, protect and enhance. I thank all our competitors for the commitment that led them to take part in a world championship; the selectors Gianluca Luconi for practical hunting and Antonio Frigato for San Uberto; the Italian judges, Luigi Chiappetta and Piero Ceccanti, who together with those of other nations have allowed the championships to unfold perfectly ”.
The secretary of the international organizing committee Domenico Coradeschi and the vice-president with responsibility for sporting activities Antonio D'Angelo also joined in congratulations and thanks in Dall'Olio, who although unable to be present has always been in constant contact with Serbia.
Lastly, but as always not a matter of circumstance, mandatory mention for Kalibro, sponsor and supplier of the uniforms worn by the Italian team in the world away match, for its keen sensitivity and closeness to our athletes and for its commitment to promoting the values of sportsmanship. and friendship that hunting and its competitive disciplines bring with them.
