Do you remember that article of mine, entitled The Long Night of the Living Dead, with which I took it out on hunting associations, guilty of having ignored my indictment against the Maremma park where the chemical castration of wild boars was being tested, to resolve in this way and not with the management the problem of their overpopulation? An indictment that has criminal implications.
If a farmer did the same things to her, she would end up in jail on charges of having dispersed hormones into the environment. There is someone who resented. But I will continue, until I have some answers, to put my finger in the eye of anyone who makes the sly, the dumb and the deaf in the face of problems that are not only ours but of the whole social body. All the more so if the eyes belong to those who should defend, by mandate of the hunters, their sacred rights and the common good that is the environment.
My anger starts this time from a position taken by Franco Zunino, general secretary of the Italian Wilderness Association, who protects the environment without receiving a penny from the state, the regions, petrochemicals and other furry supporters of many environmental associations. (which perhaps finance them to distract public opinion from their misdeeds to the detriment of the environment by directing hatred and enmities towards the new "infectors", the hunters, guilty of everything). The Wilderness protects the environment without foreclosures of any kind against us, defends people from the excessive power and arrogance of the parks by creating, with the collaboration of the populations. the so-called "Wilderness areas" where we ask only to leave things as they are, with hunting, fishing, cutting trees, with all those compatible human activities that have allowed a certain territory to reach us in the best of ways. No roads, noisy tourism, no visitor centers. Only silence and respectful presence of traditional users. I have always tried, together with some chosen spirit, to involve the world of hunting, to make it come into contact with the wilderness philosophy. In part I have succeeded. For some time Zunino had the attention of the CIC, the UNCZA, the Federcaccia being present with a lay and balanced spirit at their assemblies, meetings, conferences. He has published a beautiful book, self-financed, where he explains the role and function of the "compassionate predator", that is, the hunter. La Federcaccia bought him only 150 copies! To his complaints, he was told that "Federcaccia was unable to help Wilderness as it is already committed to supporting Legambiente, defining it as the only environmental association that defends hunting"! A slap in the face to those who have always supported the compatibility between good hunting and environmental protection. What could be the reasons for this Holy Covenant? Economics interests? Legambiente is in favor of wind farms which, supported by a powerful lobby, are wreaking havoc on our landscape. Political interests? Ideologically, the presidency of Federcaccia and Legambiente breathe the same cultural air. You tell me.
As a wise man with a long history, I understand that we can often go a little way together, even with a loyal opponent, when it is necessary to achieve common goals. And then, each on his own path. But I do not understand this Holy Alliance with those who have always signed, supported and supported all initiatives - even the most vulgar and Taliban - not for a more conscious hunt, but even for its abolition. Do you want to hear the latest? The story is a bit complicated, but it helps us to understand how much the ally Legambiente loves and defends hunting. Let's go to Friuli-Venezia Giulia. After 23 years from the provisions of Law 157/92, with much delay compared to others, the Region approved the Regional Wildlife Plan in July 2015.
Subsequently, with separate acts, as always happens, the District Hunting Plans must be drawn up and approved. In consideration of the limited time before the start of the hunting season, the Regional Council has provisionally adopted the already existing management documents that referred to the previous plan. The LAC (Lega Anti Caccia) has lodged an appeal against the provision of the council, requesting the suspension of the hunting activity.
Immediately, our friends from Legambiente, together with all the other environmental associations, joined in the request that would have led to the closure of the hunt for the whole season. Did you see what friends we have? They don't want us to go hunting, perhaps because we might get hurt or not to leave our ladies alone. The TAR gave the suspension - therefore, no hunting - temporarily repealing the resolution of the Regional Council and set the hearing on the merits in April 2016, with hunting largely closed. The reasons of the environmentalists have been supported by a fervent and sensational hype in the newspapers, on the radio, on television. Nothing else was talked about in the press, they shouted at bad hunters, Bambi massacres and murderers. The Ministry of the Environment has been brought up, even in Brussels.
Obviously the information was one-sided, without the hunters being able to have their say. But thank God, the regional council has appealed to the Council of State against the suspension of the TAR. On December 28, the Council of State reinstated the resolution of the Regional Council and set the hearing on the merits of January 14, 2016. On that date, the highest body of administrative justice put an end to the question with a sentence that gives reason to the Council Regional motivating the use of existing management documents, pending new ones, in order not to create a regulatory hole.
At the moment, while waiting for the affair to be concluded by formulating and approving the district hunting plans, the hunters of Friuli VG will perhaps continue to hunt, until the next attack by the environmentalists and the Lega Ambiente, an ally of the national Federcaccia. We wasted money, because campaigns and lawyers cost; we have all wasted time; but there are those who have spread hatred and anger against hunters through the press, radio and television. For me, who have been a professional journalist since 1954, this is the most painful note, which speaks volumes about the objectivity of some of my colleagues, dishonest or uninformed. After the sentence of the Council of State, silence. Not the emphasis and prominence that had characterized what should have been pure information. Just a brief report, in a low voice. Is this what they taught you in the newsrooms or universities where you thought you were learning the trade? I have a lot of balls (when there 'ce vo') of environmentalists, Legambiente (Legambigua, do you like it more?), Criminal journalists, Zombies and "dead men walking". Let them all go ... get their fingers put in their eyes!
