Popular initiative
On March 31 the LAV (League for the Abolition of Hunting) was heard by the joint 8th and 9th Senate Committees regarding the bill to abolish hunting. A year ago, the association, together with Animalisti Italiani, ENPA, LAC, LNDC, and OIPA, presented a popular initiative bill to this effect.
The objectives of the proposal
These are the statements of LAV: “The Bill we have proposed with the support of the 53.000 citizens who signed it represents an essential action that aims to counter the "shooter" Bill AS 1552, presented by the centre-right to the Senate with the signatures of the Group Leaders Malan (FdI), Romeo (Lega), Gasparri (FI), Salvitti (Civici d'Italia) and whose work will resume in the Senate simultaneously with the hearing of the animal rights associations tomorrow.".
Accusations against the Government
The association added: “With the approval in December 2022 of the "wild hunting" amendment, which allows hunters to enter cities and parks, the Government and Parliament have begun a painstaking effort to demolish the legal protections of wild animals, to the full advantage of the hunting lobby. This has continued over time with the legalization of indiscriminate hunting of wild boars, the approval of a five-year plan for the extermination of all wild species, recently partially censured by the Lazio Regional Administrative Court thanks to an appeal filed by associations, the attempt to grant hunting licenses to sixteen-year-olds, and other concessions that have led to the opening of two infringement procedures by the European Commission against our country.".
