Immediate block
A dramatic turn of events in the dispute over hunting exemption in LombardyThe Council of State has accepted the appeal presented by animal rights and environmental associations, ruling the immediate suspension of the Lombardy Region's measures authorizing the capture of the Chaffinch and Starling species.
The TAR precedent
The ruling reverses the position previously expressed by the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) of Lombardy, which, in an initial phase of the appeal, had rejected the environmentalists' precautionary requests, effectively upholding the effectiveness of the regional ordinance that permitted hunting activities under an exemption.
One appeal after another
Despite the initial setback, animal rights groups immediately filed an urgent appeal with the Council of State, ultimately winning the case. The highest administrative court ordered the revocation of the measures, effectively imposing an immediate halt to hunting permits for the two species. Once again, ideological considerations are being prioritized over hunting tradition and proper planning of harvests.
