A simple bike ride
It was supposed to be a quiet Sunday morning dedicated to the mountains and relaxation, but for a 64-year-old from Rivolta d'Adda (province of Cremona) it unfortunately turned into a tragedy. The man decided to go for a bike ride in the woods of Canto Alto, in the Bergamasque Prealps, but along the trail he had the misfortune of encountering a roe deer that suddenly appeared. The ungulate leaped from the bushes, hitting the cyclist full in the chest, leaving him no chance of escape.
Useless rescue efforts
The 64-year-old was with a friend, but all attempts to rescue him were futile: an ambulance, two emergency vehicles, and a Carabinieri patrol arrived on the scene. According to the friend, the only eyewitness to the tragedy, the mountain bike ride was almost over when the roe deer appeared out of nowhere from the vegetation. It appears that a dog that was with the two cyclists scared the animal.
Unavoidable questions
At this point, important questions arise. Coexistence between humans and wildlife is already challenging, and then it turns out that a simple dog is enough to trigger a chain reaction with final tragedy. Meanwhile, the entire local and mountain cycling community has expressed its condolences to the victim's family.
