La PSA (African Swine Fever) represents a serious danger to populations of wild and domestic suidae. For this reason, attention must remain different in order to intercept any signs of the onset of the disease. For this the Ministry of Health disseminated the guidelines of the National Surveillance Plan which will consist in the analysis of the wild boar found dead and in the constant surveillance of domestic pigs.
Fundamental to be able to carry out this task, the collaboration of hunters which, by garrisoning the territory, can find dead animals and detect anomalous behavior of wild boar populations. By reading point 1 of the Passive Surveillance Plan for PSA - BOARS, let's read:
Organ removal / carcass of wild boar found dead or dying:
- Reporting of the presence of dead wild boar (for unknown reasons or even simply in the event of a road accident) or dying, in urban, peri-urban, wooded areas. The report can be made by any citizen, in particular hunters, hikers, law enforcement officers on duty (Carabinieri Forestali for example), to the veterinary services ASL, who must coordinate the inspection and the collection of samples (Arch Hunting).
