Control system
The number of municipalities included in the restriction zones for the containment of the African swine fever (Psa) active in the province of Parma. This was established by the latest update to European regulation 594, approved on February 28, which adapts the African swine fever control system in response to recent epidemiological developments, and has excluded the municipalities of San Secondo, Traversetolo, Montechiarugolo and part of the municipality of Parma from restriction zone I of the province of Parma. The territories are now completely free of restrictions.
The words of the Region
"The review of the restricted areas made by the European Union in the latest update highlights the effectiveness of the containment strategy adopted by the Region in collaboration with the commissioner structure - commented the councilors for Health Policies, Massimo Fabi, and Agriculture, Alessio Mammi-. Thanks to the work of the control room and the surveillance activity carried out by the local territorial operational groups, the territories of these municipalities are once again free of restrictions. A result made possible by the synergy between the departments and the collaboration of all the subjects involved and which will allow fewer restrictions also in the activity of reducing the presence of wild boars".
Maximum commitment
“Securing the entire territory will still be a long journey, but the measures implemented are going in the right direction,” Fabi and Mammi add. “As a Region, we will continue with maximum commitment in allocating the resources needed to reduce the circulation of the virus. The objectives are important: safeguarding a supply chain that is very important for our region from both an economic and social point of view, given the number of companies and workers involved, and protecting animal health, food safety and the well-being of citizens. The removal of these restricted areas, in addition to representing an excellent result, will allow us to reduce the limitations on the marketing of pork supply chain products, with direct and immediate benefits for the companies that were included in these areas.”
Synergistic actions
“We are very satisfied with this result,” says the Commissioner for African Swine Fever, Giovanni Filippini, “achieved following the strategic plan provided for by Commissioner's Ordinance 5/2024 and the consequent synergic actions implemented with the collaboration between the Commissioner's Structure, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Regional Operations Group and Local Operations Groups” (source: Emilia Romagna Region).
