What happened a few days ago
Three letters that hunters know very well, unfortunately: in Valsugana the extremists of ALF are back in action, an acronym which indicates theAnimal Liberation Front, a group that has existed for half a century and which targets the hunting community with sensational actions. The owners of the six hunting lodges destroyed by these activists, specifically in the municipalities of Grigno and Ospedaletto, know this well.
Stefano Castellani's thoughts
ALF sowed panic in the woods in the middle of the night, but it was only at dawn that it was possible to discover what had happened. Stephen Castellani, one of the most followed young hunters on social media, wanted to share his thoughts on this sad story with the Caccia Passione editorial team: “Maybe it's because this time the news came to me directly from a friend, maybe it's because it's yet another act of vandalism against hunters, maybe it's because... It's incredible how in a delicate historical moment like this, where there's so much talk of tolerance and respect towards others, we have to witness daily discriminatory (and intimidating) attitudes towards those who have chosen to continue carrying on a thousand-year-old tradition like hunting.".
The "faults" of hunters
Castellani added: “These attitudes often go unnoticed, but I can assure you that, especially on social media, hunters are constantly insulted, threatened, and discriminated against: death wishes, illnesses, and the invocation of this blessed "karma" that they claim is one-way are just some of the most frequently cited themes. Yet, the intended recipients are always and exclusively hunters, those who practice hunting—in compliance with the law. Labeled "anachronistic," useless, and mere entertainment, hunting today is frowned upon by that segment of the population that has little understanding of the hunting world and what it truly means to be a hunter.
Freedom of choice and respect
Finally, a bitter observation:Everyone can have their own ideas, can live as they see fit and cultivate their own passions, but always respecting the freedom of choice of others where this is legitimate. In conclusion, today having chosen to be a Hunter would seem to represent an a priori condemnation, and this is unacceptable in a society that considers itself liberal.".
