The month of May
May is the month of love Black Grouse. At the first light of dawn, the males face each other in “singing arenas”, small areas located in the Alpine meadows above the treeline, always the same over the years, with bloodless but spectacular fights, emitting puffs and growls, to conquer the heart of the beloved.
The observations of alpine hunters
The females stop at the edge of the arenas, awaiting the outcome. Alpine hunters, in concert with the supervisory bodies, visit the arenas every year, observing them from pre-established points without causing disturbance, to count the singing males.
Annual management plans
An important figure, which added to the censuses that they will carry out at the end of August with the help of the pointing dog to verify reproductive success, will be used by the Public Body to define the annual management plans for the species. (source: FIdC – UNCZA)
