The agreement with the province
As part of the experimental coypu control program, an agreement was signed with the Treviso Territorial Hunting Area (ATC TV 10) on September 9th for experimental coypu control and capture in the municipality of Ponte di Piave. This program is part of the five-year regional coypu eradication plan approved by Regional Government Resolution No. 1069 of 3 August 2021 of the Veneto Region, furthermore the Municipality of Ponte di Piave has available, as per an agreement with the Province of Treviso, some trap cages for the capture of coypu, and in line with Legislative Decree No. 117/2017 Third Sector Code, which identifies Voluntary Associations among the Third Sector Entities, in order to support the autonomous initiative of citizens who contribute to pursuing the common good, to raising levels of active citizenship, cohesion and social protection, it makes use of the volunteers of ATC TV 10.
Who will carry out the activity
"By signing the Agreement with the ATC TV 10 Association," Mayor Paola Roma stated, "the Municipality is actively adhering to the Regional Plan, aiming to address the sharp increase caused by the high reproductive rate and mitigate the species' impact on human activities, with the aim of limiting its spread. The work will be carried out by ATC workers, volunteers whom I thank for their collaboration, who are certified to carry out the necessary operations for the capture, killing, and disposal of coypus as required by the provincial plan.
This agreement complements the work carried out by the citizens of Ponte di Piave, volunteers authorized by the Province of Treviso to support the citizens, to whom the Ponte Piave community extends its thanks.”
Check-ups every two days
“The control will take place,” declared Giancarlo Chinazzi, President of ATC TV 10, “through the positioning of trap cages, which will be checked twice daily, or through direct killing by operators in possession of a hunting license and qualified to control coypu” (source: Municipality of Ponte di Piave).
