Joint press conference
According to the promoters of this initiative, over 400 signatures have been collected on the four petitions launched to block the reform of Law 157 of 1992. Capellino Foundation, Legambiente, Lipu, and WWFThe same signatures were symbolically delivered to parliamentarians in the last few hours during a joint press conference.
The highlights
But what exactly are these associations asking for? Here are the key points:
• withdraw the Malan AS 1552 bill;
• do not extend hunting to new species and exclude species in poor conservation status from the huntable list;
• ban the cruelest practices, such as the capture of wild birds and the use of live decoys;
• ensure the centrality of independent science and the precautionary principle;
• strengthen the protection of biodiversity in compliance with biological cycles and the Constitution;
• provide greater safety to citizens who live and frequent peri-urban, rural and mountain areas.
A reform that is not convincing
Furthermore, the proponents argue that the various reform proposals put forward thus far would, on the contrary, introduce a general regression and relaxation in the protection of wildlife and public interest, thus conflicting with constitutional principles.
