A long wait
The Regional Council of the Basilicata approved the new Regional Wildlife Hunting Plan 2024-2028. The resolution comes 27 years after the approval of the single regional wildlife plan in June 1997. In 2020 the "Regional Guidelines for Wildlife and Hunting Programming" were approved which identified the objectives and methods for the drafting of the new PFVR, drawn up thanks to an agreement signed with ISPRA and to the technical-scientific support provided by the Regional Office for Fishing and Hunting Policies.
The process followed
The approved PFVR was subjected to environmental assessments (VAS and VIncA) and was shared with the Regional Technical Faunistic Hunting Committee. The new Plan represents the tool for planning wildlife and hunting management in the coming years, in accordance with the reference regulatory framework and delivers a "ex novo" plan to the hunting world, since it is not just the evolution or updating of the previous planning, but this is a first setting of the Plan.
Hunting planning
It will be the main planning tool for the management of fauna and hunting activity in the area. The aims of the plan are: analysis of the regional territory with identification of the various wildlife institutes (dog training areas, wildlife hunting companies, agricultural and tourism hunting companies, hunting respect zones, protection oases), geo-referenced localization and study of wildlife suitability ; determination of the Agro Silvo Pastorale Territory (planned hunting); planning of wildlife institutes by defining management methods; wildlife management (census activities, actions aimed at improving the quality of habitats, methods of controlling antagonistic fauna); self-sufficiency with wild-caught game; increasing the knowledge of hunters. The new Regional Wildlife Hunting Plan 2024-2028 will be submitted to the Regional Council for approval (source: Basilicata Region).
