Start point
Wild boar emergency and possible solutions: yesterday in the Basento Hall of the Basilicata region a press conference was held with Carmine Cicala, Councilor for Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies. An event that marks the start of the regional project "From problem to opportunity: wild boar, a resource to be enriched with added value", which includes the creation of the Lucanian wild boar meat supply chain.
Sustainability and economic valorization
The project represents a concrete example of how an environmental problem can be converted into an opportunity for sustainable development and economic valorization. The overpopulation of wild boars in this way can become a point of strength for the Lucanian territory. The objective of the Region is to strengthen the concept of “Made in Basilicata”, promoting local products on the national and international market.
How the supply chain will be created
The process of creating the supply chain, it was explained during the press conference, will be structured through: capture and processing of meat, production and distribution of derived products, inclusion of food and wine excellence in tourist circuits. Furthermore, the project aims to involve local communities, resulting in economic benefits such as: job creation, development of tourism and increased territorial competitiveness. The Lucanian company Eco Wild Srl will be responsible for creating the supply chain. Councilor Carmine Cicala commented: "A well-rounded project that I am sure will be counted among the excellences at a national level. It may seem ambitious, but it is not. Here in Basilicata we have thought big" (source: Basilicata Region).
