A concrete opportunity for the local economy
Combining wildlife management, economy and valorisation of local resources: with this aim, yesterday, the project was presented to the Territorial Hunting Areas (ATC) and hunting associations of the Basilicata the project Filiera del Cinghiale, in the presence of the Councilor for Agricultural, Forestry and Food Policies, Carmine Cicala, and the official Agnese Lanzieri. The project aims to transform the problem of the overabundance of wild boars into a concrete opportunity for the local economy and the hunting and food sector of Basilicata. "It is a strategic initiative - said Councilor Cicala - that allows us to address a criticality with pragmatism, transforming it into a resource. The wild boar, from a problem for agriculture and road safety, can become a central element of a production chain that involves hunters, processing and catering companies, generating development and employment".
Effective and sustainable management
A key point of the project is the role of training, an essential element to ensure effective and sustainable management of the supply chain. The Basilicata Region has therefore activated specific courses for selecontrollers and bioregulators, which will be held in the municipal hall of Lauria on the following dates: 1, 4, 8, 11 and 15 April. “Investment in training is essential – Cicala underlined – because only with adequate skills can we face the challenge of wildlife management and ensure harmonious development of the supply chain. The professionalism of selecontrollers and bioregulators will be crucial for the success of the entire project”.
A fundamental step forward
During the meeting, the new regulation for Hunting Dog Training Zones (ZAC) was also shared, which governs the creation, operation and methods of use of areas intended for the training and education of hunting dogs, as well as for the holding of dog competitions. “This regulation represents a fundamental step forward for the hunting world of Basilicata,” explained the councilor. “The ZAC are indispensable tools to ensure proper training of hunting dogs, improving their preparation and thus contributing to more effective management of wild fauna. It is a clear signal of the Region's attention to a sector that deserves to be promoted in every aspect” (source: Basilicata Region).
