Orders on the rise
As if the authentic ones weren't enough, now there's also a robotic version. A Japanese company is manufacturing robot wolves like there's no tomorrow, following a boom in demand that's easily explained. Japanese orders have grown following the increase in deadly bear attacks on humansRobot wolves would therefore be useful in combating large carnivores (and they also look quite menacing).
The characteristics of automata
The robot in question is known as "Monster Wolf": it's essentially a scarecrow with flashing eyes, capable of howling like a real wolf, and thus inspiring the same fear. The company, Ohta Seiki, surpassed a year's worth of orders in just a few days, with around fifty orders to be precise. However, since the wolf robot is handcrafted, it takes a long time to complete, so orders are currently limited.
The last two years
Most of the requests came from farmers and growers, not to mention those who work in rural areas and even golf course owners. The two-year period 2025-2026 was not a positive one for Japan, considering the number of human deaths caused by bears: there were 13, double the previous record. When you then factor in the 50 sightings, it becomes clear that the problem really is a capital P.
