A very strong tradition
The first dawn of the 2025/2026 hunting season has now passed for more than a month, but the many waterfowl hunting enthusiasts of the province of Brescia They continue, every available morning, to scan the sky in search of their beloved prey. In our province, waterfowl hunting boasts a very strong tradition and a significant following of respectful, quiet hunters, who practice their passion with dedication and without ever overriding other forms of hunting. The season, so far, has been somewhat uneven.
Disappointing October
After an encouraging start, with a good number of teals and a decent number of mallards, the October moon didn't deliver the expected pace. Teals, however, continue to be seen, while mallards, now sedentary, are increasingly wary. Only in rare instances has a true migration of the so-called "middle-sized" birds been observed: pintails, shovelers, and wigeons, the latter having become increasingly rare in recent years. Snipe and whip-whip, on the other hand, have been satisfactory, providing some pleasant surprises for birdwatchers.
Satellite telemetry
With the arrival of November and a marked change in weather conditions, something seems to be moving. A good number of pochards have been recorded, a particularly positive development considering that the species, considered in decline since 2009, has been showing signs of recovery for several years now and was huntable again last season. Finally, it's worth noting that, with the start of the season, the ACMA-FIDC projects, crucial for researching and protecting hunting calendars, have also restarted. Satellite telemetry, monitoring, and data collection activities continue to provide valuable information for the sustainable management of waterfowl hunting and for the future of this ancient passion (source: FIDC Brescia – Cacciapensieri).
