Hunting: Lombardy, the Department for Community Policies has rejected the proposal of the regional councilor Gianni Fava on the hunting levy in derogation.
"We note that the response of the Department for Community Policies is a firm 'no' to the requests of the Lombardy Region and Lombard hunters". This is how the Councilor for Agriculture of the Lombardy Region Gianni Fava comments on the negative opinion of the Department for European Policies of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to the request, formulated by Fava himself, regarding the exercise of hunting in derogation for the 2013 season / 2014. The commissioner, on 2 August, had in fact sent a project for hunting in derogation to the Department for European Policies and to the competent Directorate of the European Commission.
THE NEWS OF THE PROPOSAL - “Our resolution proposal - explains the commissioner Fava - contained important innovations such as the limitation of hunting in derogation to only three species (finch, brambling and starling); the strengthening of controls, with the possibility of hunting only from fixed positions; a calculation of the small quantity (provided for by article 9, letter c of the directive) based on the most recent data available to us; an experimental system for the control of the abatements, in real time, through sms technology. Unfortunately, despite these innovations, in Rome they believe that the act does not comply with the 'Birds Directive' and, within the opinion, they recall the heavy financial penalties we would face with the approval of a non-compliant act ”.
A TRADITION TO KEEP - Councilor Fava, however, does not intend to resign himself to the hypothesis that a tradition, belonging above all to the North, can be canceled. “It is wrong to think that the negative responses from the Ministry for Community Policies and the European Commission (in this case the request was also formulated by the regional councilors Rolfi, Parolini, Fermi and Bianchi) are a point of arrival - he declares -. From these answers we must start again, together with the hunting associations that have shown a collaborative spirit, with the aim of improving our proposal, modifying the National Law 157/92 and, above all, modifying the 'Birds Directive', in order to recognize these hunts traditional, practiced above all in the North, the same dignity that other types of hunting have ”.
“The real match for traditional hunts - announces Fava - is played at a national level and, even earlier, at a European level. The Lombardy Region is ready to do its part on these challenges ”.
