Closing dates
As is known, immediately after the publication of the Sentence of Tar Calabria which, accepting the appeal of the animal-environmentalist party, established the closing date of the hunting of thrushes on 9 January 2025, Federcaccia immediately challenged it, considering it absolutely groundless and this was followed by the challenge of the Calabria Region. The judgment at the Council of State will be held on 5 December and the briefs filed on the merits of the matter are based - in addition to already consolidated theses of a technical-scientific nature - also on the latest specialist publications, which further confirm how the pre-nuptial migration of thrushes occurs only from the second or even the third ten days of February onwards.
A further appeal
In the meantime, the TAR Calabria in the hearing of November 20 last examined a further appeal to the regional hunting calendar presented by the association Earth Odv, concerning the moorhen and the gadwall, rejecting the alleged early closure of the hunt for these two species. The administrative judges have thus given full acceptance, therefore, to the defense theses presented by Federcaccia Nazionale, Federcaccia Calabria and the Calabria Region itself. Once again Federcaccia Calabria thanks the regional lawyer, in the person of the lawyer Angela Marafioti, and the lawyers of Federcaccia Alberto Maria Bruni and Biagio di Vece, who validly represented us in court. It should be noted that the same Order has condemned to the costs for the first time in Calabria the appellant animal-environmentalist association.
Federcaccia's commitment
Federcaccia has always paid the utmost attention and commitment to the defense of hunting and hunters, thus defending the hunting calendars in all regions from the repeated attacks of anti-hunters. To this end, the Federation invests significant resources in professional and economic terms in the activities of its Office of Studies and Research and of the legal staff, as well as making available to the Institutions, at all levels, specialized tools and skills for support based on a collaboration that never goes beyond the respective functions and roles, but which is technically very concrete. In Calabria, the legal defenses of Federcaccia (the only hunting Association formed in the last five years to defend and support the acts of the Region) have been decisive in the victories obtained in the continuous appeals that have followed, including that of last season.
Alongside the Region
We regret to note that this latest incident has also been an opportunity to raise sterile and inappropriate controversies not by our adversaries, but by our own world. We believe that the facts as they have unfolded are sufficient to respond to statements and declarations - we regret to say, sometimes well over the top and that do not qualify the role played by those who subscribe to them - expressed by Associations that have done nothing or do nothing for the same causes and that today "fall out of the clouds". We would like to point out, however, that Federcaccia Calabria, with the full support of the National, despite not having been directly involved in the appeals against the Hunting Calendars, has always reacted promptly without waiting for "calls" from anyone. The appeals are public acts and we believe that those who want to play a role of representation and protection not only for their members but for the entire category of hunters can and must always be vigilant and informed and consequently timely in their interventions. Exactly what Federcaccia did also on the occasion of the last appeal, siding with the Region even without having been called into question or "warned" by anyone.
Indispensable battles
Complaining, as we have heard from some Associations in recent weeks, of not having received news on the matter, when instead they had even been cited as the opposing party by the appellants (and therefore obviously not appearing) is something we find difficult - and perhaps preferably for the sake of our country - to comment on. Those on the legal level are all absolutely indispensable battles to protect our activity, our passion and our traditions. Unfortunately, in Calabria Federcaccia finds itself, and not from today, leading them alone, with its own professional technical-legal and economic resources. That the benefits go to all hunters, even those who are not our members, we consider it a source of satisfaction and perhaps even our duty. That the other Associations, in addition to trying to take credit for the successes of others, also complain about it, frankly much less (Federcaccia Calabria).
