Il Agriculture Department of the Calabria Region intervened after the recent declarations of the Coldiretti regarding the damage caused by wild boars. The Region is convinced that it has the right tools to contain the presence of ungulates. In fact, the Department recalled the selection plan approved for the first time in many years and with the interventions of hunters able to limit the damage and dangers in non-suitable areas.
The same plan ended in July with approx 400 culls. The hunters of the teams were then urged to increase the levy, given that in hunting calendar 2017-2018 the daily game bag was brought from 12 to 20 garments. The Department also recalled the new specification for wild boar hunting and the new intervention to be carried out with a higher number of selectors. Some courses are being organized (held by the Territorial Hunting Areas) to train these hunters in the best possible way.
As for the reimbursement of damages, the Department is closing the procedures that concern the disputes with the provinces to which the resources had been allocated in previous years and that they have not always transferred the sums intended for this purpose to the ATCs. The farmers affected and whose compensation has been agreed with the Calabrian areas they will receive the amount due shortly.
