Hundreds of reports
“The capture of the 'Piave she-wolf', the one-and-a-half-year-old female reported by residents of the area, ended successfully last night. province of Treviso a hundred times in three months, which in recent weeks had behaved anomalously and extremely confidentially. All the reports collected, analyzed and processed by the offices of the Regional Council were then sent to ISPRA and the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security - MASE with the request to secure the wolf to put an end to behaviors considered to be excessive and dangerous interaction with citizens". This was announced by the Councilor for Hunting, Cristiano Corazzari, who in recent weeks has followed the entire affair with the regional offices.
Citizens' collaboration
The activity, coordinated by the Veneto Region, involved a multidisciplinary team of professionals, composed of the capture team of the University of Sassari coordinated by Prof. Apollonio, the Provincial Police of Treviso and Belluno, the Veterinary Service of the ULSS n. 2 Marca Trevigiana. The intervention was also made possible thanks to the collaboration of the citizens and mayors of the Piave area, as well as the Parish of Ormelle which made available the spaces necessary for the logistics, coordination of activities and technical-operational base.
Status to be downgraded
"The capture operation - explains the councilor - required meticulous planning. A complex operation, which once again demonstrated the great professionalism of our regional offices, our Provincial Police and the capture team of the University of Sassari, thanks also to the collaboration of the citizens and mayors of the area. The current status of the wolf - explains Corazzari - is that of a particularly protected species. Even if the authorizations and opinions of the competent authorities were obtained in a reasonable time, they are still incompatible with the promptness that would be necessary in these situations. I therefore believe that it is important to get to the downgrading of the current status of particularly protected species such as that of the wolf: in this way we would automatically obtain an operational and bureaucratic streamlining". After the capture, the wolf was subjected to a veterinary examination to ascertain its state of health, with samples for genetic analysis and an X-ray. (Source Regione Veneto)
