Uncontrolled proliferation
Coldiretti Calabria expresses deep concern following the tragic episode that occurred in Cetraro (CS), where a person lost their life following an attack by a wild boar. This dramatic event confirms how the uncontrolled proliferation of wild fauna represents an increasingly serious threat, not only for agriculture, but also for the safety of people, with increasingly frequent sightings in residential areas. The uncontrolled presence of wild boars in Calabria has brought and is bringing agricultural companies to their knees, destroying crops, attacking livestock and causing road accidents. Economic losses are increasing and the pressure on farmers and urban centers is unsustainable. It is no longer just an agricultural issue, but a real public order emergency. Wild boars are increasingly approaching homes, representing a concrete danger to people's safety and making coexistence in rural areas impossible.
A greater commitment
Coldiretti Calabria hopes that together with the Region, the implementation of the extraordinary plan can be completed quickly and that all necessary actions can be implemented to encourage greater commitment from the park management bodies, to ensure the effective implementation of the Extraordinary Wildlife Control Plan, with actions aimed at reducing the presence of ungulates and re-establishing a balance in the territory. In the meantime, the organization has already started meetings with its members and promoted training courses for farmers, so that they can be ready to collaborate in the implementation of all the measures envisaged.
Extraordinary Control Plan
The President of Coldiretti Calabria, Franco Aceto, stated in this regard that "we can no longer allow the uncontrolled presence of wild fauna to continue to put the safety of citizens at risk and destroy the work of farmers. The attack that took place in Cetraro shows that the problem has now exceeded every level of tolerability and must be addressed with concrete and immediate tools. It is necessary that the Extraordinary Plan for the Control of Wild Fauna be applied effectively and without hesitation. Coldiretti Calabria together with the Region, has traced the path to take, now, however, rapid and coordinated actions are needed by all the subjects involved to accelerate its completion, to re-establish a balance and guarantee safety in the territories."
