First concrete results
The process initiated with the Via Cavour Pact, born from Coldiretti Toscana 's massive demonstration before the Regional Council last February to demand responses to the major agricultural sector emergencies, is producing its first concrete results. These include the commitment to regional supplementary funding for subsidized insurance, the measures contained in the Omnibus Law, and the approval of the new Wildlife and Hunting Plan, which began discussion today. This was the message that emerged from Coldiretti Toscana's Regional Assembly, titled "A Year Together," which brought together the organization's executives, led by President Letizia Cesani and Regional Director Angelo Corsetti, along with over 400 agricultural entrepreneurs and representatives of regional institutions, at the Auditorium of Florence Cathedral. The meeting was attended by Tuscany Region President Eugenio Giani, Agriculture Councilor Leonardo Marras, Regional Council President Stefania Saccardi, and Brenda Barnini, President of the Second Commission for Productive Activities, along with regional councilors from both the majority and opposition parties. Five months after the Via Cavour Pact, born from the mobilization of Coldiretti Toscana and the open discussion with the new Regional Council during its first hundred days of activity, the first concrete results are arriving, but the crucial challenge of providing structural solutions to agricultural businesses remains unresolved.
Top priority
The top priority is the approval of the new Wildlife Hunting Plan. Ungulates and wild animals continue to devastate crops, harvests, and farm incomes, while the spread of African Swine Fever makes a modern and effective land management tool imperative. Coldiretti Toscana hopes that the discussions launched today in the Chamber will conclude quickly with the approval of the Plan, acknowledging the work of all political forces, both majority and opposition, in the Committee, which allowed the measure to reach the Regional Council. Anyone who stands in the way of a response that the agricultural world has been waiting for years—Coldiretti Toscana urges—will have to fully assume political responsibility.
Regional table to be started
Alongside the Wildlife Hunting Plan, Coldiretti Toscana calls for expedited action on other emergencies that threaten the future of businesses. A permanent regional committee dedicated to crisis-ridden supply chains must be quickly established, from the grain sector to the protection of Italian olive oil from counterfeiting, speculation, and practices such as blending, and the revitalization of dairy and beef livestock farming and the wine sector. Regarding PSA, appreciation was reiterated for the appointment of the Commissioner and the establishment of the steering committee, calling on this new operational body to implement decisive measures immediately.
Omnibus Law
Coldiretti strongly reiterates that farmers must be paid a fair price for wheat, one that covers production costs and ensures business profitability. Commercial practices that compress prices along the supply chain ultimately bring agricultural businesses to their knees, fueling distortions and fostering conditions that can even pave the way for labor exploitation. A supply chain can only be truly ethical if it recognizes the producers' fair value. Among the results already achieved is the proposal for regional supplementary financing for subsidized insurance policies, an innovative measure that strengthens risk management tools and supports agricultural businesses facing the increasingly frequent effects of climate change. Another key aspect is the Omnibus law, which incorporates some of the requests put forward by Coldiretti Toscana, including limiting the use of ultra-processed and ultra-transformed products in mass catering, and confirms the Region's commitment to continuing constructive dialogue with the agricultural sector.
What agriculture demands
"Agriculture doesn't need assistance, but tools to compete, invest, and create value. Immediate resources are needed that reach businesses quickly, without getting bogged down in bureaucratic procedures. We are calling for investments to build an ethical supply chain where value is distributed equitably from field to fork. Today we are renewing the Via Cavour Pact, but we are raising the bar: the agricultural world needs rapid, courageous, and structural responses to protect the jobs of businesses and the future of Tuscan agriculture," stated Coldiretti Toscana President Letizia Cesani. The Regional Assembly confirmed that the Via Cavour Pact represents much more than an agreement: it is a working method based on listening to local communities, institutional dialogue, and shared objectives.
