A long-awaited answer
It was a very clear and detailed request made in official bodies as early as May, acknowledging the difficulties faced by farmers who had suffered damage from wild animals (wild boars) and were not receiving the compensation they were entitled to . This was a long-awaited response for many farmers, who had suffered significant damage and were also forced to advance the sums for the technical reports required to request compensation. We therefore appreciate the provision sanctioned by the Resolution of Sector 9 Agriculture, Hunting, Fishing and Mycology of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, registered in RG no. 2561/2025 of 05/09/2025, which committed the expenditure for the advance of sums to the ATC RC 1 and RC 2 for wildlife hunting activities pursuant to Regional Law no. 9/9.
Extraordinary Regional Plan
This is according to the statement from President Federica Basile and Director Gino Vulcano of Coldiretti Reggio Calabria. The committed sum, they inform, is €277.965,87, which will be paid to the ATCs as an advance on the sums related to wildlife and hunting functions performed, specifically: ATC RC1: €250.317,47 ATC RC2: €27.648,40. In recent months, the agricultural organization's leaders continue, "we have ensured, through constant dialogue, the necessary support to overcome bureaucratic issues and ensure that the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria also leads the way in implementing the Extraordinary Regional Plan for the Management and Containment of Wild Fauna, approved by the Calabria Region, which provides effective measures to protect crops, livestock, and citizen safety.
Reported activities
The Reggio Calabria ATCs have therefore reported the activities, totaling €1.984.398,55, and now, along with all the documentation, it has been forwarded to the Calabria Region, which, after the inspections—which Coldiretti is monitoring—will proceed with the payment, expanding the range of beneficiary farmers. "This is a significant step," concludes President Basile. "Coldiretti will continue to monitor the compensation payments to farmers promptly, thus helping to restore normal wildlife management, which has caused and continues to cause so much damage to farmers and citizens. It is clear, however, that wild boar damage cannot be managed with emergency measures and tools, and for this reason, Coldiretti is calling for stable management and reliable resources (source: Coldiretti Calabria).
