An ongoing discussion
Il Iblei Park, in Sicily, continues to be a hot topic of discussion. This time, the associations CONFAVI (Confederation of Italian Hunting Associations), ACR (Association for Rural Culture), FCR (Rural Culture Foundation), and CSU (Confederation of United Sicilian Hunters) have taken a stand.
Astonishing news
This is their point of view: “Once again, donning the guise of the common man, that is, the archetype of the ordinary person, of someone who believes in the good things in life and that these should happen to everyone, and learning the astonishing news of the founding of the Iblei Park, a sense of bewilderment assails me, deep-rooted convictions about the value of democracy begin to waver, I revisit the concepts of the qualities of sharing, and of the need for a majority to decide the fate of its own territory.".
Procedural error
"It seems all this is being swept away by the dominance of interpretation, by the quibbling over procedural errors, by the judicial weight of procedural inertia—in short, everything that can allow a small minority to prevail over an overwhelming majority. But it can't work like this! I won't dwell on the resources or problems that might arise from having or not having the Iblei Park; so much has been written about it. Here, I like to reflect on a very simple assumption: for twenty years, the idea of establishing the Park has faced every kind of opposition. The great opportunities that are being touted in having the Park don't seem to resonate with the overwhelming majority of those who live in this area.".
Misunderstood reasons
"So, either the promoters are unable to explain these reasons, or they don't have enough appeal to change the population's attitude. So why persist? Why force a community to have or endure what it neither wants to have nor endure? At this point, I don't think opposition or formal appeals are necessary; rather, what's needed is a simple and peremptory political will: REPEALING Article 26, paragraph 4-septies, of Law 222 of November 29, 2007, in the part establishing the Iblei Park.".
