On April 19th the Ministry of Ecological Transition has sent a letter to the Italian Regions, to the Ministry for Agricultural and Forestry Policies and to ISPRA in which the non-compliance of some Regions with respect to the objectives set by the National Lark Management Plan, in particular underlining that several Regions would not have sent the sampling data and the results of the environmental improvements, all actions foreseen by the Management Plan approved. In the letter, as a consequence, restrictions on the taking of the species are feared, in the absence of concrete answers to what is established by the plan, although the latter does not contain any reference to the reduction of the game bag limits provided, but on the contrary the possibility of increasing it to certain conditions (paragraph 6.2.2 point 4).
The Control Room immediately took a stand on the issue, sending a detailed letter to MITE, to stigmatize the choice of penalizing hunters for the non-compliance of some Regions and also highlighting that this is not the correct path to follow, especially in light of the fact that a preventive moment of verification of the plan's implementation measures has never been made. In particular, the writing Associations have highlighted al MILD that the several times announced technical table provided for by the plan itself has never been convened, in the presence of representatives of the hunting world, which represents the appropriate venue to take stock of the situation and solicit data collection, which the Control Room obviously considers as a priority.
La Cabina also pointed out to MISE that there are several studies published in scientific journals regarding the monitoring of the skylark and various environmental improvement initiatives, information that should be detailed in the technical tables. Therefore, the control room will continue to follow the evolution of the situation and firmly ask for the urgent convocation of the technical tables and a constructive approach for the realization of the objectives of data collection, habitat improvements and monitoring of the species.
