Limited freedom
The president Marcello Stoduto and the secretary Mino Di Chiara of the Foggia provincial section of Federcaccia express their dissent for the re-proposal of the Dauni Mountains Regional Park, constructed once again with great emotional and communicative skill, but precisely for this reason it deserves a careful response grounded in reality, competence, and respect for the complexity of the issue. The Monti Dauni regional park will not bring any dream to fruition, but rather will limit our freedom and weaken our economies. The villages of the Monti Dauni, steeped in history and rural traditions, deserve urgent attention in terms of healthcare (Faeto lacks a family doctor), emergency rooms, and other facilities useful for social well-being. A landscape that was not considered valuable when wind farms were planned!
Rural areas without hunting
Rural life is fully experienced in regions where bans do not exist, but where educational programs and approaches protect nature by experiencing it intensely through direct participation through activities as ancient as humankind. Hunting has always been seen as an environmental protection, as it is regulated and therefore a tool for ecological balance. Europe recognizes this. Regional wildlife plans, hunting calendars, and restrictions by species, territory, and season are the result of scientific studies, monitoring, and technical assessments. Hunters are not "stray guns," but trained and supervised individuals who collaborate with public bodies in censuses, recovery efforts, and the containment of invasive and harmful species for agriculture and safety, as well as in surveillance activities. Without hunting, many rural areas would lose active oversight of their territories in winter, in monitoring poaching, and in implementing plans to control invasive fauna.
The protection of biodiversity
The answer cannot be solely "the State" or the Region, because the State or Region relies precisely on these widespread powers. The bill, currently before Parliament thanks to the strong will and implementation capacity of the Italian Government, does not "liberalize hunting," but proposes changes that respond to concrete needs and requests from the agricultural sector, tourism entrepreneurs, and manufacturing businesses. These measures are not "against nature," but against management abandonment. Biodiversity is not protected with a regional park, but with concrete actions, even difficult ones. We followed the approval of the Regulation for the Voluntary Hunting Surveillance Service (DGR 1333/2025). The new Voluntary Hunting Guards (GVV) are not only a support for wildlife, but a key element in protecting our entire territory from wildlife damage, supporting farmers, combating poaching, and combating the illegal disposal of hazardous waste. The establishment of yet another park is misplaced, inappropriate, and inadequate. This decision is disconnected from the real needs of the Dauni Mountains and undermines the positive aspects and identity of the area. We will express our dissent because the issue is complex and those who, for the sake of nature, advocate for sustainable development cannot be overlooked (source: FIDC Foggia).
