The need for a structured intervention
Confagricoltura L'Aquila renews its appeal to Abruzzo region To ensure that concrete and timely measures are adopted to address the increase in wild fauna, an intolerable phenomenon that continues to cause damage to crops, risks to road safety, and difficulties for local farms. The most recent incident, which occurred between Popoli and Navelli and involved agricultural entrepreneur Maurizio Ciccone, a member of the Organization's Board of Directors, in a serious accident, confirms the need for a structured response. The accident, caused by a sudden impact with several deer, left the driver injured and the vehicle significantly damaged.
Operational responses are missing
Confagricoltura emphasizes that the situation, repeatedly reported through formal documents and institutional discussions, continues to lack adequate operational responses. ISPRA data for 2024—millions of euros in crop damage, predation, and road accidents—describe a situation that impacts the entire community. The association's representatives recall the proposals already put forward: dedicated working groups, nighttime drone monitoring, identification of the most critical crossing corridors, and targeted road safety interventions. According to Confagricoltura, these tools could contribute to more effective and less emergency-based management of the problem.
Willingness to dialogue
In light of this situation, the Organization requests Regional Councilor for Agriculture Emanuele Imprudente to establish a working group and initiate a decision-making process with clear timelines and objectives. Confagricoltura reiterates its willingness to engage in dialogue and institutional collaboration, emphasizing that protecting agricultural businesses and ensuring the safety of citizens requires a shared and immediate commitment (source: Confagricoltura).
