The signatories
Eleonora Evi, Ilenia Malavasi, Paolo Ciani and Marco Furfaro: these are the names of the Democratic Party deputies who yesterday presented a question addressed to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Health to address the issue of lead ammunitionThe recipients, not surprisingly, are the heads of the two ministries, Francesco Lollobrigida and Orazio Schillaci.
4 key points
The goal? It can be summarized in four points. The question aims to ask the Government whether it intends to:
- introduce a limit for the lead content of hunted game, similar to that established for domestic animals
- progressively extend the ban on the use of lead in hunting ammunition to the entire national territory, starting from the full application of Regulation (EU) 2021/57 concerning hunting in wetlands, which is still partially disapplied
- support the restriction proposal presented by the European Commission in the context of REACH
- promote an information and awareness campaign on the risks of lead in game meat among hunters, operators in the game meat supply chain and doctors, especially in areas where hunting density is highest
The reference to hunters
There is a further step in the questioning that involves the hunting world: “The overcoming of lead in ammunition, if properly managed, does not cause negative repercussions on hunting, as demonstrated by Denmark where lead has been banned since 1996; on the contrary, hunters would benefit from it for their own health and that of their families, greater possibilities of game bag and their image.".
