Suppression of the Wildlife Hunting Committee
ENPA (National Animal Protection Agency) has expressed its strong opposition to the reconstitution of the National Wildlife Hunting Technical Committee (CTFVN) in the Chamber of Deputies, as provided for in Article 1, paragraph 8, of Legislative Decree 144 of August 7, 2026. In a hearing before the joint Environment and Budget Committees, Annamaria Procacci, head of Wildlife at ENPA and one of the legislators of Law 157 of 1992, called for the priority of eliminating paragraph 8 and thus the creation of the new Committee.
No to attempts at modification
This is the association's opinion: " Law 157/92, of which I was one of the legislators, remains, despite attempts to amend it, one of the cornerstones of our country's environmental law. The Committee originally established by that law was a very broad body, involving numerous stakeholders and with purely consultative roles on the contents of the framework law ."
A non-scientific body
" The expression of opinions on hunting calendars by an organization that cannot possibly be called scientific, but is decidedly pro-hunting, must also be evaluated in terms of its environmental impact on wildlife ," says Procacci. " The policy of marginalizing science, and therefore the role of ISPRA, unfortunately underway in our country, has not escaped the attention of the European Commission ."
