Berlato's comment
“We are satisfied, our commitment in Europe to protect our territories has finally been crowned” are the first words of the Honourable Sergio Berlato (ECR/FdI) a few minutes after the final decision reached by the European Council meeting this morning in Brussels.
The change of status
“After more than three years of constant work at the European Parliament and the European Commission, today the reduction of the level of protection of the wolf from a strictly protected species (Annex II of the Bern Convention) to a simply protected species (Annex III of the Bern Convention) becomes a reality”.
Management plans
“Now the Member States of the European Union will be able to equip themselves with national management and containment plans to ensure a balance between the various species of wild fauna and compatibility between the presence of the wolf and human activities, starting with agriculture, livestock farming and pastoralism” concludes the Honourable.
