Mild weather
The heat is relentless in Italy, and no region is holding up. The drought, however, shouldn't negatively impact the harvest in the Euganean Hills . As CIA Padova pointed out, fortunately, the Euganean Hills themselves were spared from heavy rains and hailstorms, but problems remain.
The thirst of ungulates
Wild boars and their damage are threatening the vineyards, a fact that's certainly nothing new in these parts. The proliferation of these ungulates has seen a worrying surge in recent times, and often even electric fences aren't enough. Wild boars represent the main threat, driven as they are by thirst, which drives them to seek not only grapes, but also corn and soybeans.
Numbers that deserve respect
Local farmers are therefore requesting continued containment efforts, also with a view to combating African swine fever. The province of Padua boasts 7.500 hectares of cultivated vineyards, while annual revenue is close to €70 million. These figures require the utmost attention.
