A prestigious result
Italy stood out at the World Helix Shooting Championships, winning three World Championship titles and three silver medals. This prestigious result was far from a foregone conclusion, given the presence of over 350 of the world's top specialists on the "Clube dos Caçadores de Braga" shooting platforms. In the individual rankings, the most prestigious result came from Giancarlo Serra of Castelfranco Emilia (MO). He was the only Italian to achieve a score of 26/30, leaving behind American Robert Paxton, who took the silver medal with 25/30 +4, and Spain's Gonzalo Concheiro, who took the bronze medal with 25/30 +3.
Who won
Emanuela Barillà of Rodì Milici (ME) fell just two helices short of the World Champion title in the women's rankings, dominated by American Macie Page with a near-perfect 29/30. The Italian shot putter finished with a 27/30 score and tied with Portugal's Flora Silva for second and third place. With a 4-3 lead, Barillà placed Italy second. Roberto Proietti's senior campaign also ended with a silver medal. The shooter from Terni finished with a 29/30 score, tied with Argentine Gustavo Javier Bonino, and faced him in the gold medal playoff. Unfortunately, with a 7-5 lead, Bonino earned the gold medal, while the Italian shot putter took silver.
Other triumphs
Moving on to the team rankings, the new World Champions, with scores of 57/60, are Italians Antonio Passalacqua of Messina, Carmelo Passalacqua of Messina, and Marco Rodenghi of Roncadelle (BS). Behind them were their Portuguese opponents, second with 56, and their Americans, third with 55. The Italian Veterans Team, composed of Andrea Martignoni of Livorno, Aldo Vignoli of Fiesole, and Mauro Messori of Suzzara (MN), also achieved a golden performance. First on the podium with a total of 26, they outclassed the Portuguese team, second with 25, and the Egyptian team, third with 24. Last but not least, the silver medal was won by the Senior Team composed of Sebastiano Molinari from San Severino Marche (MC), Roberto Proietti from Terni and Gianluigi Turchi from Livorno with a total of 26. Only the Portuguese team, gold with 27, was bettered, while the Argentinians climbed to the third step of the podium, third with 25 (source: FITAV).
