Mammi's words
A Plan developed "to protect agricultural production, which received a favorable opinion from Ispra. The TAR recognized the validity of the same and the legal framework with which it was built, it is unfortunate that specious conflicts must be fueled that lead to useless commitment of time and resources. Only one association presented it, and it was rejected, while the others, although not sharing the Plan, are engaging with the Region in a constructive spirit". These are the words of the regional councilor for Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing, Alessio Mammi, after the rejection by the TAR (Regional Administrative Court), with a specific ordinance, of the appeal filed by the National Free Hunting Association against the Emilia-Romagna Region.
A maximum total of 11.000 specimens
The Association had challenged, requesting a precautionary suspension, the Council resolution 2154/2024 regarding the Wood Pigeon Control Plan in Emilia-Romagna, approved last November. The Plan allows the collection of wood pigeons between 1 April and 15 September of each year, for a maximum total of 11.000 specimens. The TAR deemed the conditions for accepting the precautionary request to be non-existent.
Openness to comparison
English: "The Plan in question does not aim to reduce the number of the species at a regional level but, as already widely explained, to allow individual farmers to defend their work, already strongly affected by many other critical issues, starting with adverse weather conditions - Mammi underlines -. I would like to reiterate that all the contents of the Plan proposal have been presented to Ispra, the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, which expressed a favorable opinion and did not raise objections regarding any critical issues relating to the conservation status of the wood pigeon at a regional, national and even European level. The same will be implemented through the Provincial Police who will coordinate the interventions, where necessary. We are open to discussion - continues the councilor - and we are talking with the hunting associations that have put forward constructive proposals in recent weeks. I believe instead - concludes Mammi - that the choice of Libera Caccia, which seems to have already announced that it wants to appeal to the Council of State, does not help the hunting world, but only creates opposition between those who carry out and live off their agricultural activity and those who practice hunting, when instead greater collaboration and convergence on these issues would be useful".
