An upcoming conservation plan
La Emilia Romagna region is currently engaged in the definition of a conservation and management plan for the wolf on a national scale aimed at addressing the problems due to the increasingly widespread presence of the wolf, a protected species, with a view to coexistence between wildlife and anthropic activities, with particular attention for agricultural activities in rural areas. To promote understanding of the phenomenon and indicate good practices for reducing impacts and critical situations, the creation of a regional Vademecum and the launch of an information campaign are envisaged. Furthermore, a system of compensation for damages will be structured, aimed not only at farmers.
Deterrent interventions
Within the framework of the measures, it is also worth mentioning the collection of detailed reports relating to the occurrence of critical situations, with the aim of providing the necessary indications to deal with them and possibly implement adequate dissuasion measures. These are some of the interventions that the Region proposed during a meeting held in the Prefecture, in Parma, where the theme of increased concern linked to the increase in the number of wolves throughout the region was discussed.
Few legislative instruments
"We are very concerned about the situation that is emerging - comments the Councilor for Agriculture, Alessio Mammi - We were not surprised, as we had already written on several occasions to both Minister Cingolani and Patuanelli, to point out that facing a situation like that that was taking the form of inadequate legislative instruments serving several decades after their approval, and above all in the presence of a profoundly changed condition on the ground, was and still is impossible. Wolves are more present, in terms of quantity than in diversified and man-made territories, unlike in the past, for this reason, together with my fellow councilors from various Regions, we asked Minister Lollobrigida to urgently address the issue within the National Agricultural Policies Commission " (Emilia Romagna region).
