Formal warning
Enpa, LAC, LAV, Legambiente, Lipu and WWF Italia have sent a formal warning to the Tuscany Region for the decision to authorise the lapwing huntingThis is the view of animal-environmental associations: "With this decision, Tuscany has not only availed itself of a measure recently introduced by the parliamentary majority, but has even exploited it to completely eliminate the role of ISPRA, the sole technical guarantor provided for by national legislation and European directives."
Hunting interests
The joint statement continues: "A decision that undermines the precautionary principle and paves the way for measures based on political and hunting interests, rather than scientific evidence. All this to allow the hunting of a species for which hunting has been halted in recent years, thanks to specific requests from the European Union and legal appeals by environmental associations."
Revocation of the provision
With this formal notice, the associations are calling on the Tuscany Region to immediately revoke the measure, restore the primacy of scientific expertise in decisions regarding wildlife, and respect for national and European regulations protecting our natural heritage. At stake is not only the survival of a species, but also the credibility of institutions and compliance with the rules.
