A national team that divides
Italian football fans' feelings about Norway's performance at the World Cup currently underway in the United States have been mixed. Some have not "forgiven" the Scandinavians for effectively ousting Italy from the international tournament, but others have appreciated the national team's performance, rooting for them right up until the quarterfinals, where they were defeated by England. These are, however, sporting sentiments that never go beyond certain limits.
Endless hatred
Animal rights activists are on a different note. Photos and videos of the Norwegians' return to their homeland have been circulating online in recent hours, with the focus particularly on their star player, striker Erling Haaland. His seven goals in five games have further cemented his reputation as a top-notch striker, but animal rights activists weren't happy with the way he disembarked from the plane. Among the star-spangled souvenirs he brought home was a strange gadget: a stuffed raccoon depicted drinking a bottle of liquor. All hell broke loose: social media has unleashed the most incredible comments, filled with hatred and revulsion at a decision that may be kitsch, but is entirely legitimate.
Everything is absolutely legal.
It's worth noting that Haaland hasn't committed any crime: in the United States, it's completely legal to embalm animals, not only through traditional taxidermy, but also through freeze-drying (preserving the specimen in its original body and size). The rules vary from state to state, but these gadgets are very popular in the States. Much to the chagrin of animal rights activists.
