Management that can no longer be postponed
The management of wolves and canids resulting from wolf hybridization can no longer be postponed. Many mayors and local administrators, especially in inland or rural areas, are now calling on the government and Parliament to take concrete action in the face of the species' presence, which in some areas is decidedly over-populated, creating safety problems and causing significant damage to farmers and rural settlements, including through the killing of pets. "The administrators are right; we need to face reality, because the problem cannot be dismissed by confining it to the perception of danger." This was stated in a statement collected by the AGI press agency by the two Democratic Party deputies, Andrea Gnassi and Stefano Vaccari.
Scientific criteria and real data
"It's about intervening while avoiding conflict and overcoming ideological and propagandistic positions, both from the right and animal rights activists. It's about intervening using both scientific survey criteria and real-world data where these now highlight contingent and urgent situations, so much so that even the safety of people and pets is in question."
The Democratic bill
"The Democratic Party has presented a bill that addresses prevention, ongoing monitoring, safeguards, immediate compensation, and active management, including capture, sterilization, and culling, in accordance with European guidelines and scientific assessments. We cannot simply stand still and wait," the two Democratic Party representatives concluded.
