Poaching in the Sulcis Iglesiente. During an anti-poaching operation, carried out by the men of the Forestry Corps between last November 2016 and February 2017, about 350 metal snap traps were discovered for the capture of birds and 120 steel cables for the illicit capture of ungulates or wild of medium and large size.
The judicial police activity, aimed at the protection of wildlife and the contrast of illegal activities related to poaching, took place in the districts of the municipalities of Santadi, Narcao, Piscinas, Giba, Villaperuccio and Tratalias as well as the territory of the wildlife oasis of park of San Pantaleo and in the natural park of Gutturu Mannu between Assemini, Capoterra and Uta.
As far as they could ascertain, the foresters reported seven people on the loose, all from the municipalities concerned, to answer for the illicit of criminal relevance related to hunting regulations and for the protection of fauna regarding the use of metal laces, nets and mechanical snap traps for the capture of wildlife; one of the reported subjects was also charged with the illegal possession of a hunting rifle.
All the material found, including the weapon and related ammunition, were seized by the poachers.
