Aquatic migrants and land migrants
In anticipation of the National Assembly scheduled for tomorrow, December 12th, in Rome, the heads of the Federcaccia Sectors held their regular meeting together with the National Coordinator, Presidential Advisor Oscar Stella. Among the many topics discussed, the focus of today's meeting was the new "Hunting and Biodiversity" project, developed as part of the Federation's strategy to document and enhance the role of hunters, pursued through all its components. Specifically, the project was conceived and will be managed by the FIdC Research and Studies Office in collaboration with ACMA and UCIM, reference sectors respectively for the hunting of aquatic migrants and land migrants.
Value added
The initiative focuses on hunting hides, aiming to raise awareness and promote, even outside the hunting community, the added value for biodiversity represented by the maintenance, restoration, and management of the environments in which they occur, carried out by hunters: from vegetation control to the creation of open areas in wooded areas, to the planting of trees and shrubs that provide food and shelter for birds. The underlying goal, as mentioned, is to increasingly highlight the role hunting plays in promoting biodiversity, a role constantly questioned and denied by anti-hunting campaigns.
How much does hunting do?
To achieve this, Federcaccia, through its Studies and Research Office and its sectoral branches, has developed a questionnaire to collect as much useful data as possible to create a database that will provide reliable and documented information on the objective benefits of hunting for biodiversity in our country. The questionnaire will be distributed through FIdC branches nationwide to those who own a hunting post, with the aim of submitting an initial report as early as 2026 (source: FIDC).
