Necessary clarifications
The debate on the changes to be made to the national hunting law is heating up and in the last few hours Giulia Sottoriva, head of CONFAVI (Confederation of Italian Hunting Associations), shared a video on social media to clarify the situation. These are his words: "The Senate is currently attempting to amend some sections of Law 157 of 1992. Of the 18 proposed amendments, only one is of interest to the hunting community. This article would allow for the elimination of the exclusive hunting option currently provided for in Article 12, paragraph 5 of the law. The other sections of this proposal are just hot air and are of no interest to the Italian hunting community.".
Signatures in support
Sottoriva then explained what is expected from this modification process: “In fact, they have nothing to do with our proposed amendments, which we presented through the Association for Rural Culture and for which we received the support of 504.230 signatures. And to think, some hunting leaders are claiming that hunters ask for too much and are never satisfied. We're not asking for too much. Among our proposed amendments, we're asking for the possibility of Article 18, paragraph 4, which allows Regions to submit hunting calendars through an annual law. This would put an end to animal-environmentalist appeals against the calendars at the Regional Administrative Courts.".
Migratory game and sanctions
The requests are not over: “We also call for the inclusion of the concept of seasonal and species-specific hunting, as is done in the rest of Europe. We call for mobility for migratory game hunting and for the decriminalization of minor offenses, as well as the conversion of criminal penalties to administrative ones. So, do you think we're asking for too much, or do we simply want to restore dignity to the hunting world? I'll leave the answer to you.".
