Yesterday 28 September, the council of the province of Grosseto met to provide guidelines regarding both the territorial areas and the times and methods of carrying out the boar hunt in single form in the unvoted land.
The president of the Province of Grosseto, Leonardo Marras, explains: “The reports of damage caused by wild boars to agricultural crops are increasing. Hunting in single form in unsuitable land is possible starting from 1 October ".
Precisely in consideration of the increase in reports of damage to agricultural crops caused by the excessive presence of boars registered in 2011, last July the Provincial Council had approved the early start of wild boar hunting in the unsuitable area as early as October 23, while the single hunt in the unsuitable area was scheduled for 1 October.
Marras continues on data relating to damage caused by wild boars: “In 2009 there was the lowest amount of damage ever recorded in the last 12 years and in 2010 the situation remained under control. But in 2011 there is an increase in damage, even if we will know the total amount only in 2012. Hence the decision agreed with farmers and hunters, interested in the management of wild boar populations, to extend the hunting period. If, in fact, it is possible to intervene with containment throughout the year, it is nevertheless true that population control is certainly more effective during the hunting period ".
According to the guidelines provided by the latest update of the Wildlife Plan, in consideration of the ascertained incompatibility of the presence of wild boars both with agricultural crops and with other wild species and with the environment, it is established that in non-suitable areas the presence of this particular species is drastically reduced and possibly even eradicated.
Hunt in single form. La wild boar hunting in the non-suitable territory it can be carried out in the period from 1 October 2011 to 30 January 2012, in all external areas, by individual hunters who will give their availability towards the Territorial Hunting Areas to carry out damage prevention works through passive defenses . The areas of influence of the districts and of all public and private institutions are excluded, with the exception of the Wildlife Hunting Areas.
Wild boar hunting in unsuitable areas must be carried out individually by the hunter who has the right to access the ATC, wearing a high visibility jacket or other garment with the same characteristics, even with the use of one's own dogs but without the collaboration of other individual hunters. Only in the month of January the use of the dog is not allowed.
Contribution of € 10 to be paid by hunters. The Provincial Government has also fixed a contribution of 10 euros to be paid by hunters enrolled in wild boar hunting teams or for selection hunting for deer and bovids; the collected contributions will be used by the ATC to implement the management and withdrawal plan.
With the changes introduced by the new regional regulation on faunal-hunting matters, the competence for the contributions has been entrusted to the Province, rather than to the ATC, so as to be able to standardize the contribution in the three provincial ATCs despite the difference in density of hunters in the various provinces. belonging to the same ATC. The fee may be increased by the ATC for management reasons and may also be increased for hunters not resident in the municipalities of the Province.
The new regional regulation also provides for the so-called "provincial provisions" regarding the assignment of hunting areas for wild boar hunting teams. With regard to the possible methods of assigning the batting areas, the daily draw, programmed rotation and direct assignment are considered.
As regards the possible direct assignment of the batting areas to the teams, a prior agreement of three quarters of the participants in the battles in the previous hunting season with rounding up to the higher whole number is required.
Finally, the competent Office of the Province will have the task of establishing whether the annual management plans by the districts have not been respected both due to lack of implementation and to the possible increase in damage in the area surrounding the districts compared to the previous year; in the latter case, the same Office will suspend the direct assignment and decide on the assignment of the batting areas.
