Controversy and fake news
On Wednesday 21 May, in the prestigious Conference Hall of the Chamber of Deputies in Rome, the book “A caccia di bufale” by Domenico Beccaria was presented: a work that aims to bring a more truthful and documented narrative back to the centre of public debate. about the hunting world and hunters. The event was promoted by the Honorables of the League Francesco Bruzzone and Alessandro Giglio Vigna, together with the Italian Hunting Federation of Piedmont and with the participation of the National. After the introduction of the moderator Matteo De Chiara, collaborator of the FIdC Press Office, the first to speak was the Honorable Francesco Bruzzone, who immediately emphasized the urgency of reacting to what he defined as "a toxic and instrumental narrative of hunting", also referring to the recent controversies and fake news related to the proposed amendment of law 157, which are currently spreading on social media. "Hunting - he underlined - has a fundamental role in the protection of the territory and in wildlife management. It is time to put the truth back at the center of public debate".
Telling the story of hunting for what it really is
Following this, the Hon. Alessandro Giglio Vigna reiterated the importance of defending a deep-rooted tradition that respects the environment. He defined hunting as “a component of Italian rural culture”, highlighting how Beccaria’s book represents an important contribution to restoring dignity to a practice that is too often misunderstood. Representing Federcaccia Nazionale, the National Vice President Marco Salvadori, after bringing greetings from the National President Massimo Buconi, thanked the author for having addressed such a delicate topic with balance and competence. “There is a growing need – he declared – to tell the story of hunting for what it really is, beyond slogans and media distortions. This book offers us a concrete starting point to do so”.
The urgency of clarifying
Guido Dellarovere, Regional President of Federcaccia Piemonte and promoter of the initiative, also gave a heartfelt speech, underlining how the project was born precisely from the need to react to widespread misinformation. “We wanted this presentation,” he explained, “because today more than ever it is necessary to counter clichés with data, knowledge and common sense.” The author Domenico Beccaria concluded the proceedings, explaining that “A caccia di bufale” was born from the urgency to clarify and provide the reader, in addition to a tool to dismantle the main accusations leveled at hunters, also the stimulus to react to misinformation: from those who describe hunters as enemies of the environment, to those who paint them as dangerous or cruel individuals. The book, he stated, does not want to divide, but to help rebuild a serious debate, based on reality. The meeting represented an important moment of discussion, an impulse to restore dignity and voice to the Italian hunting world - battles that have always been supported by the Italian Hunting Federation - which thus relaunches a clear message: only with correct information, based on data and not suggestions, can we build a perspective for hunting integrated into modern society, free from preconceptions and misinformation.
