Councilor Zelli's note
“As chairman of the Environment and Agriculture Committee of the Lazio region, I welcome with great satisfaction the extension of the hunting season”. Thus, in a note, the regional councilor Giulio Zelli, of Fratelli d'Italia. Specifically, the region has brought forward the start of the hunting season to October 2, setting the conclusion for January 30. “The novelty – explains Zelli – is that 13 hunting days have been added precisely to combat the proliferation of wild boars, now in evident excess and become, as is known, the cause of multiple road accidents and significant damage to regional agriculture”.
Differences from the previous version
“By bringing forward the opening by a month, the hunting calendar – the president points out – has been extended to a total of 52 hunting days compared to the previous 39. The region, through the excellent work of councilor Righini and the offices, has done the maximum possible in relation to the current national hunting regulations in terms of huntable days”.
New provisions
After the approval of the Plan for the containment of African swine fever (PRIU), the region's commitment to combating ungulates continues: "Through the Agriculture and Environment Commission, there is constant dialogue with hunting associations, which have in fact welcomed the new provisions. We remain increasingly convinced that hunting and the subsequent marketing of wild boar meat are the only tool to definitively put an end to the emergency and, at the same time, enhance the Lazio agri-food chain. The figure of the hunter, also in the context of combating PSA, is a precious resource for achieving the containment of specimens and is a bulwark against the possible spread of the disease". "In this regard - concludes Zelli - we will constantly monitor to ensure that the provisions of the PRIU are correctly implemented by all competent bodies. Finally, I hope that the implementation of hunting in compliance with the new hunting calendar can contribute to establishing a new balance in terms of the presence of wild boars in the Lazio region".
