New hunting season
The Lombardy Region has defined the official provisions and limitations for hunting related to 2026 / 27 seasonThe official documentation and complete regulations can be consulted at the following link and contain the 2026/27 Regional Hunting Calendar – Annex Provisions Common to the entire regional territory (with the exception of the Province of Sondrio) and the annexes and specific provisions for the various Provincial UTRs. The provision introduces significant restrictions, remodulating the periods of activity and maximum permitted bag sizes for various species, with the aim of ensuring the sustainability of hunting and the protection of wildlife.
A total ban on hunting for turtle doves and ruffed doves.
The measure provides for the total suspension of hunting in the region for two species. Hunting remains prohibited for:
Wild turtle dove (suspended collection)
Fighter (withdrawal suspended)
Resident and migratory species: a summary of dates and bag numbers
For the remaining species subject to restrictions, the Region has established the following daily and seasonal limits, in addition to the related collection time frames:
Woodcock: Harvest permitted from September 20th to January 31st. The maximum limit is 2 birds per day and 20 per season per hunter.
Skylark: Hunting will be open from October 1st to December 31st, with a daily limit of 10 birds and a seasonal maximum of 50.
Quail: Harvesting window from September 20th to October 31st. Maximum bag set at 3 daily animals and 20 seasonal animals.
Lapwing: Species that can be hunted from September 20th to January 31st. Limits are set at 5 birds per day and 20 birds overall for the entire season.
Redwing: The general provisions remain valid, but a seasonal maximum of 200 birds per hunter is introduced.
Aquatic Focus: Severe Restrictions for Pochard and Tufted Duck
Particular rigour has been applied to the management of aquatic fauna, with stringent constraints also linked to the training of hunters.
Pochard
The harvest period is between September 20th and January 31st, with a maximum bag of two daily animals and ten seasonal animals. Please note that, between January 21st and 31st, harvesting will be permitted exclusively from a hide.
Moretta
Hunting for this species is permitted from November 1st to January 20th, with a limit of 2 animals per day and 5 per season.
Special qualification requirement
The hunting of both the Pochard and the Tufted Duck is reserved exclusively for specialist waterfowl hunters from fixed hides, provided they have attended the appropriate training course and obtained the relevant official qualification.
Ducks and Rails: End-of-Season Provisions
For the group that includes Teal, Gadwall, Wigeon, Mallard, Garganey, Northern Shoveler, Coot, Moorhen and Water Rail, the calendar includes:
General opening and closing: From September 20, 2026 to January 31, 2027.
End-of-season restriction: During the final days of the season, specifically from January 21st to January 31st 2027, hunting of these species may only be carried out from a hide (Source: FEDERCACCIA LOMBARDIA).
