Huntable species
By decree number 20 of the Sardinia Region 's Councilor for Environmental Protection, dated August 7, 2026, the 2026-2027 hunting calendar was prepared and published. The hunting season begins with a pre-opening, dog-free hunting at a post on Thursday, September 3, and Sunday, September 6, 2026, with hunting for wood pigeon, hooded crow, jay, and magpie. The general opening of the season is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026, when the following will also be available: mallard, common teal, northern pintail, garganey, common pochard, lapwing, gadwall, wigeon, northern shoveler, common snipe, common moorhen, common snipe, water rail, coot, blackbird, and quail. Hunting for larks, woodcocks, fieldfares, song thrushes, and redwings will be open until October 8, 2026.
Closing in 2027
Hunting of the European turtle dove is not permitted. The Regional Wildlife Committee, considering data on the Central-Eastern Flyway provided by the Task Force on the Recovery of Birds Species, which confirmed the species' continued decline, has accepted the European Commission's proposal for a hunting moratorium for the 2026/2027 season. The hunting season is scheduled for January 31, 2027, with the exception of blackbirds and quails, which will be brought forward to December 31, 2026. Hunting of the Sardinian partridge, Sardinian hare, and wild rabbit will be permitted on September 20, September 27, and October 4, 2026.
Other withdrawals and dates
Fox hunting will begin on September 20th, with roaming hunts permitted only in self-managed teams using tracking dogs. From October 4th, organized teams using tracking dogs will be allowed throughout the entire territory where hunting is permitted. From Thursday, October 1st, 2026, wild boar hunting will be open exclusively, including roaming hunts with the use of dogs. In the Sardinia Region, roaming hunts are permitted on only two fixed days (Thursday and Sunday), in addition to weekday holidays, with five days of hunting silence out of seven. In the rest of Italy, hunting is open five days a week, with two days of hunting silence (Tuesday and Friday) (source: Sardinia Region).
